Online tools for preparing scientific manuscripts for journal submission

Methodological Self-Assessment Tool for Scientific Manuscripts

Guides authors through a structured methodological self-assessment questionnaire and provides an overall methodological quality score with recommendations for manuscript improvement.

Scientific Reference Forensics

Verifies references against Crossref, OpenAlex and Europe PMC, corrects bibliographic metadata, DOI values and identifiers. Evaluates citation relevance to the manuscript using title, keywords and abstract, and generates forensic reports and downloadable editorial files.

Instructions for Preparing a Correct References List

  1. Open the Reference Preparation Assistant application. Download the generated results and copy the entire contents of the dois_found.txt file.
  2. Open the DOI to Vancouver Reference Generator application. Paste the contents of the dois_found.txt file into the input field, generate the references, and download the References_vancouver.html file.

Reference Preparation Assistant

Analyses the References section, verifies bibliographic metadata using Crossref, identifies missing or incorrect DOI values, detects duplicate references, and prepares editorial reports.

DOI to Vancouver Reference Generator

Generates Vancouver-formatted references from DOI lists using Crossref metadata while preserving the original manuscript reference numbering.

Recommendations

Authors are encouraged to use these tools before submitting their manuscripts. Although they do not replace editorial assessment or peer review, they help identify common methodological and bibliographic issues and improve manuscript quality before submission.
